I wonder if Don Lemon (other CNN anchor) coming out first influenced him. Seemed like the obvious thing to do once Lemon came out.

It might be old news, but take the time to actually read his statement. I think it strikes a nice tone and gives a good explanation for why he has not acknowledged this publicly before and why he decided to do so now in a low-key way.

I agree. This is a duh moment. He has been out for years. Well at least since the time he discussed it on Oprah many moons ago when he also talked about his brother's suicide. How is this new news.
