When is it time for speeech therapy?

OP, we couldn't afford speech therapy but when my 5 year old was having major difficulty with the /r/ phoneme I bought some materials from "The entire world of /r/" online and did many of them with her.

After a few sessions she improved so much, I was no longer worried about her speech. And now at age 7 her /r/ sounds are fine. Of course people say that many kids do just improve as they get older, so who knows if it made a difference. But it only cost me about $50 or so for the materials I purchased.
