| I don't rinse the kind from Costco (organic) and bag indicates its not necessary either - its never sandy. |

| I read that quinoa has a coating of naturally-occurring chemicals to make them less palatable to birds etc, and that these are mildly poisonous to humans and must be rinsed off thoroughly before cooking. A few minutes under water in a fine mesh sieve is my routine. |

I've never heard that it was toxic, but the coating sure is bitter, and is pretty nasty tasting. |
