Gah. I'm from California and earthquakes don't phase me a bit, but these tornado warnings have me totally freaked out. Other than getting drenched walking home from the Metro tho, no real damage so far.

Hope my son will have the sense to stay in Karate a little while longer and not try to walk home just yet.

...or you could pick him up.....

Lol no kidding. I was thinking the same thing. Come on mom, help your kid out. Leaving him stranded?

Seriously. Bad parenting.

Bailing water here in Bethesda.

I'm thinking of the mom on the "inch of gray" blog and hope she's okay...bad storms can't be too easy.

And my idiot husband just went out from Alexandria to downtown DC for a coeorkers going away happy hour. I'm not as paranoid as OP but I do think it's wiser to stay put once home in a storm like this if you don't have a really pressing reason to go out. Like picking up your kid from a karate lesson, say.

Just watched several rivers flow around our house here in Bethesda. One ran down our neighbor's garden steps toward our house. Another flowed through our backyard to our driveway. Another flowed from our other neighbor's backyard toward the spot on his foundation that always results in his basement flooding.

Sitting here with a kid with a 102.5 degree fever, trying to keep her away from a four month old.

Good times.

All done.

It's not even close to being done. Well, the first storm is, but the second one is going to worse. Tornado warnings until 2am.

"Paranoid" OP here. Husband made it home ! Weather seems to be better.

Let me explain why I was more worried about my husband than some of you think I should have been. Have lost 2 friends to bad weather car accidents. One was probably about 15 years ago-she and her friends drove during a blizzard. She thought people were way too crazed about bad weather. This occured in the midwest. She had grown up there and felt she could handle any driving conditions.

2nd person was a work friend. While driving in a bad storm a tree fell onto her car. She died. She had 2 young kids and a husband who was not ready to play mom and dad.

I used to be more laid back too. Things happen. These conditions were terrible for driving and Capital Weather Gang was urging people to stay off the roads.
