HPV vax

I wanted my 11 year old son to get the vaccine but his doctor recommended we wait a 1-3 years. He told us that additional virus strains were being added to the vaccine so it should get better. If he was sexually active, the doctor said for him to get it ASAP.

what is your reason for not getting him vaccinated?

I personally think the general record of vaccines is quite good in terms of general health of the country.

Did you get a rubella vaccination in your early teens? I got mine at 12. Did it make you more likely to have sex as a teenager? Teen girls are given the rubella vaccination not because rubella is such a dangerous disease, but because of its effects on unborn children. I knew that when I got the vaccine, and it had no impact at all on when I first had sex.

We all got rubella vaccines (boys too) so that there would be less rubella around more generally, so that the whole community would be safe, including the people who cannot be vaccinated.

I do see your point about the rubella vaccine having no impact on your sexual behavior, though.

I have HPV, that I found out about when I was seventeen. I have had cervical dyplasia.

I am getting the vax for my son as soon as he is old enough.

I have HPV. I was diagnosed in college. My son is 13. We didn't get the vaccine at 13 (dr. asked us to), but will definitely get it this year at his 14 wellness visit. To him, it's just another vaccination.

Yes - just had 2 kids (early teens) vaccinated - HIV is incredibly common and scary - Genetil warts in college ( from my first partner) lead to irregular cells on a pap years later. Would not wish that on my kids.

I had the vaccine myself and will have my children vaccinated. I was a junior in high school when it came out and looking back on some drunk nights in college who knows what it may have saved me from. I also just got the new Tdap vaccine released in 2005. I want myself and my child to be protected from all of the parents who can't be bothered to worry about public health.

The benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks.
