I believe that Walls is actually the best public school for high school. At least in terms of SAT scores and college admissions. |
EL Haynes charter will eventually be PreK-12th grade. They go thru 6th grade right now. |
Check out Deal! The kids are HAPPY there and having a good time learning. The energy there is fantastic! |
What's the OOB competition like there? |
Does Hardy have metal detectors like Deal? Do all DC middle schools have metal detectors? They really bother me. |
From what I have heard all the middle schools have metal detectors in them - I have a problem with that as well but I am trying to find a way to get over that.
As far as OOB competition for Deal my guess is that it would be stiff. More and more kids from the feeder elementary schools are choosing to attend Deal and now that Deal is completely renovated its almost a no-brainer. At our public elementary a majority of families choose Deal, some choose charter and a very small number go on to private. In past years families would leave for private at 4th grade - I have a child in 3rd now we shall see how many families make that move this year. So far the word on the playground is - stick it out for Deal. |
My kids were at an ES in upper NW, and quite a few left after 4th grade to go private, and then more after 5th and 6th grade. There's a lot of good buzz about Deal, but we opted to go private for middle. I think maybe half the kids go on to Deal now. |
Deal is really fantastic! You should go visit that school. My kids went to Deal and now are at Wilson. They had great teachers at Deal and have some really good ones at Wilson now. |
I just went to a session at Key the other night and heard the Deal principal say that she is looking for OOB applications. She gave us hope! Apply! |
They have metal detectors at every museum, sporting event, store, etc, around here. By the time your kids get to middle school they will be so used to it they won't think about it. Frankly, it would bother me more if they didn't have them. Just my opinion. |
I agree- it's a common enough sight around town these days. Plus middle and high school kids are not known for their good judgment-- better we all know some one is watching what they bring into the school. |
