he was 83, not 86, but I agree with you otherwise. the terry gross interviews are really beautiful, but also sad- so many people he loved have already died (including his partner of 50 years) that he basically said he was ready to go. amazing that despite never having children he was so in touch with how much more complex kids were than adults were willing to give them credit for.

Chicken Soup with Rice was my favorite! Carole King sang it and I had the single. I played it over and over as a kid. When I worked on the Hill 20 years ago, Carole King called my member and I answered the phone. I had to take the moment to thank her for singing Chicken Soup with Rice. She was so flattered b/c it had been so many years since she had recorded it and couldn't believe anyone remembered. I was 24 at the time.
