How late do you wait to call the cops?

I think you are jealous of their McMansion and you didn't have any fun tonight so you want to make sure they don't. If it's their first time, let them enjoy a nice night out, and if there is underage drinking, that's the parents responsibility!

Midnight. Any earlier makes you a crap neighbor. (Much later makes THEM crap neighbors.) Your kids will survive to have a Saturday-night party of their own one day.

She is saying they are tacky people with bad manners and an outsized sense of entitlement.

It may or may not be true, but that's the caricature she's trying to draw.

Is this the same OP who posted, awhile back, that she got mad when her neighbor mowed the lawn at 9am on Sunday morning?

In the same vein, what does it matter that it's a rebuilt McMansion?

Probably.

Maybe she's also the one who was angry about fireworks on New Year's Eve!

OP, I can only imagine where you are from.

I am from Silver Spring (originally) - and we tend to go straight up to people's doors and ask them to STFU.

In my experience doing so, I have a) met some life long friends b) met some wild, young fu*k buddies, before I got married but in my 30s, c) joined the party, and/or d) they just STFU and I went to bed.

Plus, as other posters said, you don't want to be a buzz kill or old crone lady, you know?

its part of living close to people sometimes there will be noise

OP, what happened?

I would call the cops and report a horrible McMansion, not the party.

Hilarious.

Glad that someone funny is awake at this hour on a Sunday morning.

OP here, I didn't call. The party began to calm down a little around 1030pm. Still noisy well past midnight but not so much screaming. It was definitely a high school party based on the packs of kids who were roaming up and down the street. I wouldn't harass my neighbors over a boistrous barbeque, but this was frat party type of noise - people shrieking and chanting what sounded like drinking games. It was probably unnecessary to mention the McMansion, but seriously if you buy a house that is built up to the lot lines, you ought to show a little bit more consideration for your neighbors. And no I don't complain about early morning mowing noise as I'm up at 6am every day (I also don't mow or annoy my neighbors that early either.) I didn't mean to outrage the holier-than-thou DCUMs, but where I come from raucous high school parties did get a call to the police.

...so if you thought it was a high school party, why didnt you call?

If my kid was having a party no supervision, I hope a neighbor would call the cops to put a stop to the drinking-- And reducing the chance someone drove away from my house drunk, putting their life, other lives in the car, and others on the roads at risk. I could not give damn about noise, but I do give a damn about people's lives.

Wow OP. You started complaning at 9:30 about noise at a neighbor's McMansion with 3ft of backyard grass. Then you actually had reason to believe the party was underage drinking? Presented with some credibe evidence of actual potential harm (to any drunk teenagers and anyone else in their path), then you do nothing? And you come back here and complain that the party throwers should have more respect for neighbors because they have a house built close to the property line? Do you not see how you're complaining when you have no right and when you should complain, you do nothing?
