How to combat smell in the bedroom - does your bedroom ever smell in the morning?

Wow. I'm very sensitive to smells, and my bedroom never smells. I guess I have to be thankful for small favors. Our bad house smells are usually from the litter box or the old dishwasher, which I just got rid of.

We definitely get this. (And yes we shower every day and once a week we change our sheets and dust and vacuum.) We've got two dogs that sleep in the room with us and we have to keep the door closed or the dogs will wake the kids at the crack of dawn. Keeping a window open and running a ceiling fan helps. Usually once we get up in the morning and open the bedroom doors, if we leave the ceiling fan on and a window open, it doesn't take long for the room to smell fresh again. I can't stand scented products so I don't use those.

Do you have a dog? My 13 year old dog sleeps on his doggy bed in our bedroom. It starts to smell after about a week. I have two and I was the covers weekly. He also farts a lot, he is a stinky boy. But we love him.

Launder your bedclothes (including the comforter, duvet and/or bedspread) with baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda into any carpet that you have, leave for 15 minutes, then vacuum. Last, open a fresh box of baking soda and stash it somewhere in the room where it will not get tipped over.

If you make the bed daily, when you get up in the morning, pull the bed sheets and covers down to the foot of the bed. Leave it that way while you get ready for work. Make the bed last thing before you leave to air out the bedsheets.

I was reading a housekeeping tips book once (it was more interesting than it sounds) and it said contrary to popular belief, it's really not sanitary to make your bed first thing in the morning. Whether you shower right before bed or night, it's normal for people to expunge moisture (sweating, breathing, etc.) The statistic was there about how much moisture we put out and it was a shocking amount. They recommended getting out of bed in the morning and NOT making your bed. Instead, you should pull your sheets back and drape them over the footboard to air your bed out. All day is good, but at least while you're getting ready in the morning.

Home Comforts, by Cheryl Mendelson? It really is an interesting book!

I like to shower or bathe before bed. And I don't make the bed first thing; I let it air.

I'm not the OP, but that is the best book ever! It would make a great gift for a young person getting their first apartment/house.

Yes. Strip the bed and wash everything in boiling hot water--use "Ms Meyer's Cleaning Day" detergent--lavender scent. And shower BEFORE you go to bed at night. I always do.

I'm not OP, but we don't open any windows in our house b/c of bad allergies to pollen, grasses, ragweed, etc. - in this area the only months you don't have to worry about those allergens are Jan and part of Feb!

DH has a c-pap that goes in the nostrils only and the end result is our room smelling like a wet dog's ass. I put a small air purifier in there and the stink went away.

And the two farting dogs don't help either.
