| I would call the police if I saw a stray (unaccompanied) dog wandering around my neighborhood. |
| We are actually in the opposite situation as OP, in that our property borders a trail and repeatedly, dog owners allow their dogs off leash while on the trail, but don't get them back on the leash in time and the dogs are in our yard, on our deck, and on our front porch. One dog actually jumped on our screen door and the gouged the scrren and the owner said "oh, happens at my house all the time." Huh, yeah, you own the dog!! Unfortunately, it is not just one dog, but a number of them and it is really making me frustrated. When we have been outside and with my DD playing on her playset or on the deck cooking dinner, I have called out to several owners asking that they put their dog back on the leash. I try to do this polietely, but I still feel like this makes me look like a crazy dog-hater. Although I'm not completely comfortable around them (bad experiences as a child), I'm not a dog hater, but just wish owners would keep them on the leash. I don't know what to do. |
| ^^ That situation must be so frustrating! Could you put a sign on the edge of your property, saying something like "please keep your dog leashed"? Is there a leash law where you live (that is, are all of these people breaking the leash law while on that trail)? |
| I think, OP your strategy is right. There is no compelling reason to involve animal control at this point and you have other avenues through which to address the issue. Good luck. |
It sucks for you, but I think your only option is to get a fence preferably a high one |
| Have you talked with the dog owners yet? I would try to approach them before leaving an anonymous note (or involving other groups). |
| I agree with PP. to immediately escalate to animal control or even the HOA is sort of extreme. The owners could be v nice an just seriously not thinking. Why create an issue and a contentious issue when they might just apologize and keep their dog on a leash from now on? You can always go to the HOA later if necessary. |
| Do nothing. You must endure the antics of dog owners. Or else you hate animals. |
This sounds like an excellent job for and use of police time. Fighting real crime. |
