Flying to Hawaii - stop or direct?

My brother lives on the Big Island, and we have family in California, so for us an overnighter in the Bay Area one night makes sense (not in LA, though.)

Once I had to do the flight from Kona to Maui, overnight Maui to LA, LA to DCA and go to work that morning (argh!) Longest commute ever.

Hawaii does NOT suck, you will have an awesome time. We saw sea turtles on every snorkel. Too bad the little pumpkin can't swim yet! Recomend the "Revealed" series of guidebooks, for off the beaten path recommendations like waterfall hikes, freshwater springs, etc.

We also waited until our DS was 4. I cannot imagine making that trip with a younger child. Now we go almost every year.

Without a doubt the non-stop flight. Once you're off the first 5 hour flight, there's a good chance you'll be greatly dreading the next 5 hour flight. Get it over with and enjoy your fun in the sun!
