Bus boarding etiquette

OP, welcome to D.C. The entitled should still be in diapers, by their behavior.

This reminded me of a funny story. I had parked close to the ATM in the last legit nearby bank (not handicapped) parking space. This 30 or 40 something guy who reeked entitlement cut in front of me as he saw me approaching. He parked at the curb (yellow paint to those of us who mind such things). I yelled to my spouse: "guess that is VW parking today". The guy was incensed, as it was an Audi (same thing, to me). My spouse was howling, so I think the guy was more put out by the joke and spouse's response than anything. I didn't think the joke was that funny, but spouse did, so good on spouse

Ruined the guys day. Oops.

Drop your backpacks, suitcases, laptopbags or breast pump bags in line as soon as you step at the bus stop to "hold your spot" in line and go play. When the bus approaches you then run as fast as you can and jump in line where your stuff is sitting

This made me laugh. Awesome.

Not really, no.

I say this as a daily bus rider - who cares?

Common sense says whoever is closest boards first. No need to step back and wait for the person from the car to get there.

Bus boarding etiquette is a bit of a joke, IMO. Obviously, step back and let people off before you get on. If paying cash or refilling you card, do it promptly (I usually step back and let others go first). But most people just butt ahead and try to get ahead of everyone to get the best seats.

I board at the metro station and I try to let people go before me and be courteous but I end up getting run over and become everybody's doormat, so I don't do that as much anymore (but I also try not to be the asshole who butts in front everyone).

OP I think you overthinking things and are a little too worried about what other people think of you / upsetting others.

Haha! My DH and I call assholes "Audis", so I liked this story.
