How do you feel about atheists

I am not religious at all. I am a good person, I am a caretaker and go above and beyond making sure my family and patients get exceptional care. Religion causes hatred among people with different religious backgrounds, it's the cause of many wars, and is a way to control an impressionable population of people (not all, but many). If you revisit history and there are countless examples.

I don't necessarily follow this logic.
You say religion causes hatred and wars -- but is it not PEOPLE carrying out these things -- in the name of the religion ?
So, following your logic -- shouldn't u not believe in or fault the PEOPLE as well as the religion?

By the way i M a christiand who does not have a problem with atheists.

I just looked at the Reason Rally website. They are referring to atheists as nontheists. I think I like that term. Like others on this thread, I generally refer to myself as being nonreligious. But I'm still kind of in the closet and just don't talk about it much.

Too bad it's going to rain tomorrow for the rally after all this beautiful weather. I think some anti-atheists could have a field day talking about God's hand in that one.

Only my closest friends know. I would share more openly, but there are too many scary crazy people out there. Who knows what they might do.
So if someone else told me they are an atheist, I would be relieved.

The importance given to religion in the US baffles me. My first reaction to the OP's question was "who cares if you are an atheist or not. I respect your believes. We are friends and that is a non-issue" but I know that for Americans it actually matters. I guess I get a free pass for being a foreigner. People just assume I belong to some"voodoo cult" from the get-go and never ask.
I would keep is simple OP. Just say you are not religious.

the only thing about atheists to me is that i dont need you to throw your non-beliefs in my face cause i dont throw my beliefs in yours (or anyone else for that matter).

some atheists or anti-religious people are just as bad with throwing how much they dont believe in god in your face as the very religious "freaks" they accuse of throwing their beliefs and love for god in theirs and others faces.

we can both have different views and continue to enjoy life and ourselves.

I'm not the "I don't believe in atheists" poster, but she has a point even though I'm not sure she realizes it. Like another PP said, Darwin, Einstein and Dawkins have all said they can't rule out a deity 100%, so they call themselves agnostics rather than atheists. Well in Dawkins' case he calls himself a practical atheist because he acts like God doesn't exist even though he can never be 100% sure, but I'll let you guys unpack his definitions. In any case, if these 3 undeniably smart people don't call themselves atheists, then do they exist? A theological question for the day....
