Worst bowel movement of my life today (TMI)

This happened to me...only at work! I sat on the toilet for 45 min. I ended up with most of my clothes off because I was sweating do badly. Like you I ended up needing to use my finger to break up the poop. It was awful! The constipation ended for me once I got off zofran but I will never forget that poop. Hang in there!

When I was taking iron pills, even slow release, i had to take 2 stool softeners, eat 1 activia yogurt and drink a glass of prune juice every night in order to keep things regular. If i missed one of the combination it was 3 days of pain. I am so sorry. I would like to say it got better after DD was born, but it took about 4 weeks for me to get back to normal. Hang in there.

Drink a small glass of prune juice every day. If it doesn't help immediately have another glass. It truly works wonders.

OP here, I am so sorry this happened to you at work! While I was on the toilet for 1.5 hours yesterday, the only consolation in my mind was that at least I was at home and not worried about needing to go do a conference call or something. UGH.

There is a tea line called Traditional Medicinals and they make lots of different types of tea, a pregnancy tea, a breastfeeding tea (Mother's Milk Tea) and a tea for folks who have some bowel issues called, wait for it....
Smooth Move.
I think I've found it at Giant and other regular grocery stores but I know you can find it at Whole Foods.

Good luck!

This post had me cracking up. During my last pregnancy, my sciatic nerve flared up, and every time I had a BM, it put pressure on the nerve. So, not only was I constipated, but BMs triggered immeasurable pain down from my hip and down my leg. Miserable.

oh yes, I've been there. Caused TEARING and bleeding. Also freaking amazed/impressed at the football of poop your body is able to store. Just think of it as prep for deliver.

I have also been there! Happened at work where I nearly passed out from the pain, husband drove to get me and take me home, where I went through same awful attempts at trying to take care of it myself. But then ended up in the Emergency Room! Like another poster, it was due to the Zolfran. I eat prunes daily now.

Been there! Kiwi fruit works wonders for me. It is loaded with fiber.

I was honestly wondering if I should have my husband take me to the ER. What did they do there? And I know this is so dumb but what did you tell your husband?

Something similar happened to me at 38 weeks with my second except no iron pills. It was 4 hours from the time I went in the bathroom until I came out. I was crying and hysterical because I was afraid I would have to go to the hospital to get it removed. I called my midwife and she told me to get some latex gloves and go in with my finger and break it up. I had the baby a week later and I swear that poop was worse than the birth. I was all swollen in the front and went around with ice in my pants for three days after to try to get the swelling to go down. I will never forget it.

I always tell women now that when you have even minor constipation during pregnancy, stay on top of it because it can get that bad -- stool softeners, prunes, whatever works for you, just do it consistently. I had eaten Papa John's pizza in the two days before this happened (and forgotten to take my SS like you) and I seriously still think about the incident every time I eat pizza. I was that scarred. And my poor husband -- I sent him out to the store for prunes and an enema and he was such a good sport about it. I can't imagine going through the checkout with those two items and nothing else. I am ROFL just thinking about it.

Oh, and ladies, if you have an epidural of a block make sure they keep you on stool softeners - what they seem to forget is that block freezes your bowels for several days. When they finally start up you are full of rocks and you will have days of painful BMs described here.

With this pregnancy I am on stool softeners and Miralax and eating prunes daily. I am the most regular person in the world except when prego.

OP here. I didn't use latex gloves but I am glad to hear using my finger to break it up was not necessarily the wrong thing to do. I was so desperate!! Strangely enough I had eaten a lot of pizza the day before and day of....yikes.

I'm scared of eating pizza now... LOL

And BRING PAPAYA FOR YOUR FIRST MEAL!

This fruit is miraculous! Make sure it's ripe, it will slide right out and get you going for sure.

I've had major surgery before and it worked like a charm. I was in labor for 2 days so I had nothing in my stomach when I came out of my emergency C-section. I had a whole papaya and it came out just a few hours later... easy peasy!
