WIS Primary School?

We do not speak the target language but turned down GDS, because DD can try immersion only at PK/K level. Even if WIS does not work out for her later, she can try GDS anytime.

This is ABSOLUTELY not true. Many more waitlisted or rejected than admitted. We've been there 7 years and last year many sibs got shut out. From what I hear, there is about a 20% or so admit rate - at least in Spanish. Probably less for Spanish K.

Of course, many more waitlisted/rejected than admit rate. The comparison is of admit rate at WIS versus admit rate at top schools in the area. And PP's post ( it is not mine) seems to be saying that it is a high admit rate relative to other schools. I do not know if this is true, but I do not think it is typically thought of among the top 3-5 in the DC area.

I don't think anyone said it was in the top 3-5 in DC area. WIS is a very unique place with a very special program. It is not for everyone and in my opinion, you must be committed to bilingual education to really get it. We have been there several years and we have seen a few students counseled out. Doing grade-level academic work in two languages every day is not for every child. I wouldn't even begin to compare it to the so-called big whatevers. It's just that different.

IMHO that is a meaningfully different admissions process result than those flowing from the other sought after schools. Sorry to see some parent feelings have been ruffled in the process - hope you look past that and focus on what will be best for DC over time. We are delighted with the PK program this year. We do not speak the target language. Speak to current parents. Distortions abound on this website.

OP here- thanks for the feedback! We enrolled her and we couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of this wonderful school. We are looking forward to the Fall

It's an excellent program. And I liked Kathleen Visconti's directness very much. She was informative and indepth regarding the program, and very honest when asked direct questions. I found her to be very positive and have a 'good' vibe!
