Washingtonian: The Gonzaga Board Defends the Firing of Mike Davis

He has earned that respect through his dedication, professionalism, openness to growth always, caring for his students, and total honesty. I am sad beyond words that this has happened to him(and to Devon and his sons.) I am concerned that Mike has been caught in the "perfect storm." The Church and educational institutions are under great scrutiny due to abuses that have occurred and went unaddressed. Gonzaga fits both designations(Church & school), and certainly the administrators carry a heavy burden to act responsibly. In this atmosphere the circumstances could lend themselves to burning an innocent person. My belief in Mike is solid.

So are you saying he was fired for absolutely no reason whatsoever? The board just woke up one day and decided to fire someone and it happened to be poor old Mike? Where's there's smoke there's fire but clearly denial is rampant.

It's generally poor form to mention people by name in this forum. Mike Davis is in the news (at least on DCUM) but Devon? If that is his spouse's name it is really wrong of you to post her name here. She's got enough to deal with. AD's are fair game (LOL) but (IMHO) the spouse of a disgraced, fired teacher should not be mentioned by name.

Agree on mentioning names... Gonzaga is acting so weird about this it fuels speculation.

I have no idea what this is all about but sadly the church's abuse scandals have led to this process of "dismiss immediately and ask questions later." You can't have it both ways folks. Either you want them to wait and investigate completely before acting or you want them to err on the side of caution and get anyone suspected of anything away from kids.

I can't think of anyone that would not vote for erring on the side of caution.

This is all very unfortunate for Gonzaga and they should be more forthright. Gonzaga is a hot hot school right now and many families are watching.
