Does anyone think Viola Davis was robbed of her Oscar?

What's that about? Yes, I do think it was racist. They gave the best supporting actress award to an AA woman, but couldn't find the votes to give best actress to Viola Davis over perennial favorite Streep. Streep didn't deserve it, and she knew it. She spent half her acceptance speech thanking her hairdresser for God's sake! Why would you choose a good performance over a great one if you weren't just a teensy bit biased against AA performers? It doesn't make any sense to me if I don't include race in the equation.

The Members of the Academy vote for their choice and as many of them are AA, I don't think it is racist. Personally, I thought Glen Close should win but that VDavis would win. However, look at all the awards Streep won this year and it didn't come as a surprise that she won. Race had nothing to do with the outcome. Contrary to how your thinking, everything isn't black and white.

Sorry have to chime in on this - the academy is something like 2% AA. There was a recent article about how homogenous it is and filled with irrelevant people.

And the roles that are available are maids, drug dealers, drug attacks, and other demeaning roles. Hattie McDaniel won a Academy in 1939 for playing a slave maid and 73 years later Viola Davis is nominated for portraying the same role. I understand economics plays a significant role, as Hollywood wants to make money, but race does as well.

Actually, it's really all about money.

FYI, as recently reported, the members of the Academy are 94% white.

I don't watch these BS awards, for the reasons stated on this thread.

The race card?? Are you joking? Were there no non AA performers who lost to Octavia Spencer or was she not black??

The Academy got it right. The level of difficulty of what Streep had to do far surpassed what Davis had to do??

Davis won the SAG award. Streep the G Globe. It was neck and neck and the better performance won. Davis was great. Streep was beyond compare.

Of course it's racist. When you have a black and white person both in the running and you chose the white person it's because you are a racist. See: Republicans.

I really wanted to see Viola get the Oscar. Not because she is black, but because she did such a lovely job in The Help. Meryl is an amazing actress, but I don't feel she deserved to win the award. I was sad for Viola. Race had nothing to do with Meryl winning, its just the fact that she is the most powerful actor in Hollywood, and they better give her an award or she will retire. Viola has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. She is a goddess, she will have her day.

As an African American woman I didnt think it was so much about race as it was that Meryl Streep has been nominated over 15 times. I think the academy just decided that since she hasnt won since the 1980s that it was her time to win again. Viola Davis was excellent in The Help and I thought she should have won. But... The Help was the only film I saw in the pastyear that had any nominations, so I'm biased.

Lmfao!!!! So Octavia's win was okay? But Streep's was not because she's not black?? So anytime a Black loses out, it is due to racism???? Hilarious!!! So should all the white supporting actresses claim Spencer won because of Affirmative Action? Should they claim reverse discrimination??? Streep was amazing, transcendent. Beyond compare. And she deserved to win
The SAME voters voted on Spencer and Davis. They picked the right ones.

They shold have just given it to Rooney Mara. Now, that would have been quite a surpise.

Good grief - I'm so sick of this. Your statement is so incredibly ignorant. Basically, you're saying that no matter what - IN ALL CASES whenver a black person is running for anything - anything at all - qualified or not - if they don't win, we're all racists. No wonder our country is so divided. And no wonder some people think that a black person doing the job is not as qualified as a white person doing the same job - because people like you think the black person should always get the job - even if not qualified - or else everyone's racist.

I think the academy simply likes Meryl Streep better than anyone else. Not saying she is not a great actress but sometimes actors dont get Oscars in the year that they've earned them. I like to call it the Al Pacino rule. Didnt he win for that terrible movie Scent of a Woman? He was robbed for his work in Godfather I and II.

OP, did you see The Iron Lady? Meryl Streep was brilliant.

I am going off topic - but I think George Clooney should have won Best Actor - not the french guy. Loved The Artist and think it deserved Best Picture - but - George deserved best actor. Subtle, human, tender performance......it's his time.....
