crazy preschool registration and enrollment process

OP here: any other preschools out there that do this similar type of registration?
Thanks for the feedback about the other preschools. I think this preschool ought to make changes to its registration process.
The other problem / reason for this process is there are less slots with each older class. Is this not the case with other preschools?

Metropolitan changed to a lottery this year, and my understanding was that it was because the director felt that the overnight camp-out was getting out of hand and not really reflective of the reasoning behind having a sign-up date (which was, presumably, an effort to move admissions away from a competitive selection process).

We were actually kind of bummed -- I appreciate the director's efforts to level the playing field, but given the stress of applying to preschools in DC, it would have been nice to have an option where we had some control over the process.
