It's an absolutely fantastic organization! They are a non-profit based in DC (on Connecticut Avenue near Van Ness). They build playgrounds all over the United States.

FD Hope (www.fdhope.org)
I'm on the board of directors and I make contributions. The organization funds research to find a cure for familial dysautonomia, a progressive neurological disease. Most of the children who have this disease do not get to become adults. My son was born with FD and is now 7 years old. So finding a cure is a race against time, but the research is extremely promising, so I'm very hopeful.

The only thing I am concerned about, is when I donate, how do you know the money is being used properly instead of ending up in an administrator's pocket. If I raise lots of money, I want it to truly help someone.

A little off the topic (maybe I should start a new thread) BUT - does anyone know of any good charities who will come to your house and pick up household items? I have a lot of very nice stuff (we recently downsized) and I would prefer to donate rather than do a yard sale type of thing. Baby clothes, furniture, appliances, china, nice stuff. We are in DC........Woodley Park.

I agree - KaBOOM! is a great, well-run organization. They were recently profiled in Fortune, BusinessWeek and on the Today Show. They are DC-Based?
