If you could spend no more than $450,000 on a SFH/townhome/condo, where in the DMV would you buy?

Nice house (from the inside) but I'm guessing it's not a very good commute. Quite a way to the nearest Metro.

OP stated:

"your spouse or both have a daily commute into central (Metro-accessible) DC"

I'd get a good deal on one of the Glebewood Village townhomes (2BR/1BA), ~1 mile from Ballston Metro. They were profiled in WPost a while back for 'what $500k buys in...'

Does Warwick feed into Mt. Vernon elementary or Cora Kelly?

That's an awesome location. I used to live there and loved it. You can't beat being directly across the street from the Metro.

Wasn't metro loud though - hearing the trains pulling in/out of the station especially during the winter when the tree leaves are around? Plus, there is no yard...of any sort. And not even a tree line for privacy?

There is a photo of the finished basement.

Would VRE to Metro be acceptable?

This was our situation, with one child. We bought a 2-bedroom condo in Adams Morgan in-bounds for the District's most popular schools. No interest in suburban houses here.
