Many coach in their sport of choice. Or manage the facility they train. Etc.
Some are supported by their parents as they are underage, and some while over 18 are still college age. You can only train for so many hours a day. It's not hard to get a part time job with no career path. It is very hard to have two career paths, a professional and a sports. I'm sure there are a few people who do it, but most have to put it off while they train. |

If I am not mistaken, the US bobsled team almost couldn't pull the money together until Steve Colbert stepped in.
I have an Olympic Class relative, and believe me, there are no endorsements coming his way -- to him or anyone else in his "niche" sport. It is not a sport that people do casually, so there's no opportunity to model niche clothing etc. |
