What IS this?? bug bites? rash?

I work in the pest management industry and honestly amazed at the number of informed responses here about bed bugs.

PPs had great suggestions. Call a pest control expert. You can find one in your area by visiting www.pestworld.org and entering your zip code. I would also suggest seeing a dermotologist but they have minimal experience with identifying bed bug bites.

I think I read that bed bugs are cyclical... the females come out to feed once a month or so, then they disappear til it's time to lay eggs again. Makes them hard to identify, because by the time you've noticed the bites and started looking for them, they've already holed up til the next cycle. Ugh. Hope for you it's something else!

All bedbugs must bite, female and male. They have no other source of food. It's true that they take several days to digest, but they're not all on the same feeding schedule.

It is necessary to inspect possible hiding spaces, since they're sneaky. Discolored stains are going to be hard to find until there are more than a few of them.

Could be lots of things. My guess is chiggers if the child is playing in the yard/playground, and contact dermatitis if the child is wearing socks a lot.

Fleas also bite around the ankles because they can't jump very high. This happened to me after staying in a pet-friendly inn... they itched like crazy! But they didn't disappear so quickly.
