| It is near Avenel, where some streets feed to Potomac schools and some streets feed to Whitman. Technically it is Bethesda, but west, on the border of Potomac. I think this is why people can see it either way. |
| Sandy Spring Friends School. It is a progressive education with Friends school tradition, but it is PK through 12. |
| Perhaps Sheridan, although it is a lot smaller. |
| I would say that Norwood is more traditional. Sheridan and Sandy Springs Friends are quite different from Norwood. |
|
It is on the Bethesda-Potomac line, and draws quite a lot of Potomac families.
Definitely not like (and much better, academically, than) Green Acres. |
| OP, what do you like about Norwood? That would help in identifying schools that share those attributes. When I think of Norwood, I think: nurturing, structured, traditional culture, strong arts program and solid sports. Which of those qualities is/are most important to you? |
| Agree...stronger academics than Green Acres, and all around better school. |
| Norwood is most similar to St Patricks's Episcopal in NWDC. The two schools have some connections, like married administrators. Norwood's campus is larger, leafier and has more/better sports fields. St Patrick's is a little more "DC-establsihment" amd also has a more diverse student body. Both produce students that move on to some of the best private upper schools in the area. |
If you want academics, avoid Green Acres. |
This is news to me. Who is married to whom? |
I thought Norwood was working on this, no? |
| As a PP said, what specifically do you like about Norwood? That helps focus the discussion on similar schools. |
Being in a white suburb, Norwood will have trouble getting the level of diversity that SP has. It is not bad though when it comes to race, but culturally, they aren't used to different "types". No gay parents. and so on. |
| But let's be honest, while maybe improving, SP is not that diverse. |
