See I'm a 21st century digital boy
I don't know how to read but I've got a lot of toys My daddy's a lazy middle class intellectual My mommy's on Valium, so ineffectual Ain't life a mystery? -Bad Religion It's sad how prescient that song was. |
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying Brother, brother, brother There's far too many of you dying You know we've got to find a way To bring some lovin' here today - Ya Father, father We don't need to escalate You see, war is not the answer For only love can conquer hate You know we've got to find a way To bring some lovin' here today Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality Talk to me, so you can see Oh, what's going on What's going on Ya, what's going on Ah, what's going on In the mean time Right on, baby Right on Right on Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong Oh, but who are they to judge us Simply because our hair is long Oh, you know we've got to find a way To bring some understanding here today Oh Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality Talk to me So you can see What's going on Ya, what's going on Tell me what's going on I'll tell you what's going on - Uh Right on baby Right on baby Marvin Gaye |
Love is a burning thing
and it makes a fiery ring bound by wild desire I fell in to a ring of fire... I fell in to a burning ring of fire I went down, down, down and the flames went higher. And it burns, burns, burns the ring of fire the ring of fire. The taste of love is sweet when hearts like our's meet I fell for you like a child oh, but the fire went wild.. I fell in to a burning ring of fire.....[etc] |
The Eagles: The Last Resort -
And you can see them there, On Sunday morning They stand up and sing about what it's like up there They call it paradise I don't know why You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye |
Love, love, love The Smiths |
OMG! I played this song at the highest volume in my bedroom in the early 80's and sang my heart out......LOVE this song....... |
"Mothers Pride" (George Michael) Oh she knows She takes his hand And prays the child will understand At the door they watch the men go by In the clothes that daddy wore Mothers pride Baby boy His father's eyes He's a soldier waiting for war Time will come He'll hold a gun His father's son And as he grows He hears the band Takes the step from boy to man And at the shore she waves her son goodbye Like the man she did before Mothers pride Just a boy His country's eyes He's a soldier waving at the shore And in her heart the time has come To lose a son And all the husbands, all the sons, all the lovers gone They make no difference No difference in the end Still hear the woman say your daddy died a hero In the name of god and man Mothers pride Crazy boy His lifeless eyes He's a soldier now forevermore He'll hold a gun till kingdom come (this song makes me cry) |
I posted these lyrics. And the Smiths are still my favorite band. I guess I'm still indulging my youthful naivete but I never stopped thinking their lyrics were more like poetry. So profound and yes, funny (sometimes). On that note, enjoy... Stop me, oh, stop me Stop me if you think that you've Heard this one before Stop me, oh, stop me Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before Nothing's changed I still love you, oh, I still love you ...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love I was delayed, I was way-laid An emergency stop I smelt the last ten seconds of life I crashed down on the crossbar And the pain was enough to make A shy, bald, buddhist reflect And plan a mass murder Who said lied I'd to her ? Oh, who said I'd lied because I never ? I never ! Who said I'd lied because I never ? I was detained, I was restrained And broke my spleen And broke my knee (and then he really laced into me) Friday night in Out-patients Who said I'd lied to her ? Oh, who said I'd lied ? - because I never, I never Who said I'd lied ? - because I never Oh, so I drank one It became four And when I fell on the floor ... ...I drank more Stop me, oh, stop me Stop me if you think that you've Heard this one before Stop me, oh, stop me Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before Nothing's changed I still love you, oh, I still love you ...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love |
Cats in the Cradle - so sad and so true for so many Dads!
My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok" And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say "Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?" He shook his head and said with a smile "What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then I've long since retired, my son's moved away I called him up just the other day I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind" He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad It's been sure nice talking to you" And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then |
Kiss me goodnight and say my prayers
Leave the light on at the top of the stairs Tell me the names of the stars up in the sky A tree taps on the window pane That feeling smothers me again Daddy is it true that we all have to die At the top of the stairs Is darkness I closed my eyes and when I looked Your name was in the memorial book and what had become of all the things we planned I accepted the commiserations Of all your friends and your relations But there's some things I still don't understand You were so tall How could you fall? Some photographs of a summer's day A little boy's lifetime away Is all I've left of everything we've done Like a pale moon in a sunny sky Death gazes down as I pass by To remind me that I'm but my father's son I offer up to you This tribute I offer up to you This tank park salute |

Imagine - John Lennon |
One of my favorite songs. Used it on my high school yearbook page. Whenever I consider skipping a performance or passing on the opportunity to teach the kids a new skill, I remember this song and come to my senses. I filed my taxes late this year so as not to interfere with the Cub Scout camping trip. -DH |
Cat's in the Cradle is by the late great Harry Chapin, a master of the story-telling song. Here's another one by him, way before No Child Left Behind, but it reminds of it anyhow.
Flowers are Red by Harry Chapin The little boy went first day of school He got some crayons and started to draw He put colors all over the paper For colors was what he saw And the teacher said.. What you doin' young man I'm paintin' flowers he said She said... It's not the time for art young man And anyway flowers are green and red There's a time for everything young man And a way it should be done You've got to show concern for everyone else For you're not the only one And she said... Flowers are red young man Green leaves are green There's no need to see flowers any other way Than they way they always have been seen But the little boy said... There are so many colors in the rainbow So many colors in the morning sun So many colors in the flower and I see every one Well the teacher said.. You're sassy There's ways that things should be And you'll paint flowers the way they are So repeat after me..... And she said... Flowers are red young man Green leaves are green There's no need to see flowers any other way Than they way they always have been seen But the little boy said... There are so many colors in the rainbow So many colors in the morning sun So many colors in the flower and I see every one The teacher put him in a corner She said.. It's for your own good.. And you won't come out 'til you get it right And are responding like you should Well finally he got lonely Frightened thoughts filled his head And he went up to the teacher And this is what he said.. and he said Flowers are red, green leaves are green There's no need to see flowers any other way Than the way they always have been seen Time went by like it always does And they moved to another town And the little boy went to another school And this is what he found The teacher there was smilin' She said...Painting should be fun And there are so many colors in a flower So let's use every one But that little boy painted flowers In neat rows of green and red And when the teacher asked him why This is what he said.. and he said Flowers are red, green leaves are green There's no need to see flowers any other way Than the way they always have been seen. |
