That there's actually life outside of Bethesda? It is amazing indeed.

It is very sad. I would love for my DS to scratch that school off his list. Although it is a good school, it has had more than it's share of violent incidents.

Reports now that the second victim was in fact the shooter. Hopefully that ends the immediate emergency. Still a policeman's family is suffering a terrible loss. And the shooter's mother must be in pain as well. So sad.

She has a pretty awesome job right now in a lucrative field, so I don't think going to Duke tainted her chances at a job afterwards. I mean come on, that judging is a bit extreme. Maybe if they were a Duke lacross player that would come into play but I can't imagine too many people would judge you because you went to a school where something once happened, but you weren't even involved in.
my impression of Duke is mean people...the mean lacrosse team....mean angry-looking coach K...mean and ugly Johne Feinstien....mean and wierd Richard Nixon...they all seem mean and self centered....not good business partners.

It doesn't matter how many sad incidents like this occur at Virginia Tech. It will still be infinitely more attractive than College Park. So, please, no crocodile tears.

Not for many Maryland residents. Plus, U of MD has an Engineering program which many feel is better than Tech's.

that poor school must be cursed...first the massacre 27 dead. then that awful beheading of a student by another student in the dining hall. the the fort hood shooter (13 dead 27 wounded) turns out to be a VT alumnus. then that poor VT student was abducted at UVA and mudered. Now this assassination of a police officer and subsequent suicide. Then you add to it the UVA lacrosse bludgeoning of that poor girl and the odd suicide epidemic at william and mary....it's getting too wierd to be a fluke.

Serious mental health issues often show up in the early twenties, plus you have kids who are dealing with breakups and they aren't emotionally mature and don't have other friends/support/family... well, you end up with college campusses having violent crime.

I don't think it is should be a reflection on all the hard-working, non-violent people at the university.

I actually was born and raised in DC. Sorry I don't have detailed knowledge of the rural VA areas. I'm sure that you'd be able bring your tractor over to my house and tell me more about your farm.
