Ringling Bros. Circus fined over treatment of animals

But of course just because I like the circus doesn't mean that I think they need to do all they can to treat the animals in a humane way as possible. Just like zoos should do the same.

and really, the animals are a very small part of the circus experience. its is mostly entertainers - who I'm guessing are treated worse than the elephants but nobody seems to care about them!

People have choice. They are free to leave the circus. Animals do not have this option.

Not sure why I have to point out something so obvious.

And I don't think it's "extreme" to not condone animal abuse. That's what you're doing when you go to the circus, PP.

I'm sure they don't care about the money--just the bad publicity. That's the bigger issue here, I think. They'd probably be more than glad to pay a lot more in fines if it could be kept secret.

I'm sure they don't give a crap about the publicity either as there are plenty of mouth breathers don't give a rat's ass about the animals so long as they get to see a show. (See 2nd posting at 12:15 above).

I went this year for the first time and that was only because a friend gave me tickets she couldn't use. It seriously weirded me out and we left at intermission. This seals their fate in my book. Circuses are skeevy.
