| Yes - found out recently. Surprised because the connection is through the "trashier" side of our ancestors. Go figure. |
| No but one side of the family was involved in the Revolutionary War. |
| Yes - we have three ancestors who came over on the Mayflower and others who followed behind that shortly on the Arabella in 1630. |
| I am descended from one of the original Jamestown settlers. I've always thought it was pretty cool to think about that. |
I am half. Glad my dad left the Rez though. He raised me to believe it is better to be white, more opportunity. You would never know looking at me. I don't look like Disney's Pocahantus |
| My family definitely goes back to Massachusetts colonial era. There is a town that was founded by people in our family. I think my grandfather found some evidence that we were linked to the Mayflower, but I don't know the details. |
| Does this help to get into better schools, clubs and organizations, i.e., is it something admissions committees unofficially take into consideration? |
Hahaha! |
| yes - my fathers side of the family came over on the Mayflower in the 1700s (not on the first trip but on a later one). |
| 10:13 here...and when they got off the boat the family was split into two lines for registration or documentation and the guy doing the recording on one line spelled their last name wrong so half the kids had one last name and half had another! |
I am. My grandfather's father grew up in a farm not far away from the tribe his family was from. Grandpa was a cowboy, married the daughter of an European farmer and had 10 children. One of them is my dad
I love spending time with family and listening to their stories. |
| Yes -- direct descendants of Priscilla and John Alden (Longfellow's poem retold their story as an American version of Cyrano). This has made absolutely no difference in our lives or lifestyle ....just interesting for DC at this time of year. We are also related to the Jamestown settlers -- again, not really a big deal but interesting for history lessons, etc. |

One branch of my family first appears in historical records in 1794-- when the Shawnee were killed or run off their land in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. I assume, being native american, that they had been there for much longer, but weren't big on written records.
On my mom's side, yes, there was at least one Mayflower passenger. Others in her line arrived before the Mayflower, and settled in the Carolina/ Virginia colony. |
| Yes -- Francis (& John) Cooke. No impact on our lives whatsoever. |
| Yes, not the Mayflower, my immigrant ancestor landed in Plymouth in 1620, I believe he missed the first Thanksgiving! As I like to quip, "Old family, no money." Tee hee! |
