Except the US News list of best American High Schools![]() |
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/29/us-news-and-world-report-_n_987480.html U.S. News and World Report, known for its annual rankings of America's top colleges and high schools, released today its first-ever list of "Best High Schools for Math and Science." Topping the list from first to third place: High Technology High School in Lincroft, N.J., BASIS Tucson in Tucson, Ariz. and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Va. |
That would be BASIS Tucson. Which cannot be one of the best charter schools in DC because, wait for it, it's in TUCSON. |

Not really, PP, because BASIS DC has not "started" yet.
I want solid, successful schools here as much as the same person, but it is really important to be honest with parents looking for good alternatives. BASIS DC is not open yet and therefore cannot be on a list of best DC schools. Really very simple. If BASIS supporters think that the way to build excitement is by patronizing parents in such an obviously insulting way, they are going to be unpleasantly surprised by the local reaction. So, BASIS, try this. Open first. Live up to your promises, and you will gather loyalty, enthusiasm, and a place on everyone's list of the best in DC. |
McKinley STEM MS is the news of the day. |
Exit, pursued by a bear.... |

What is DC Hebrew? a school that hasn't opened yet? As noted by others BASIS DC hasn't started yet either. There is also no McKinley application STEM MS yet, though that has been proposed.
Inspired Teaching's top grade will be 4th next year, not an option for those looking for 5th next year. |
These weird lists do not sound like they come from a source familiar with the local schools. |
By Sarah Wildman Published August 22, 2011, issue of August 26, 2011. Starting in 2013, Washington kids will also have the option of putting their names into a lottery to attend the DC Hebrew Language Charter School, a secular public charter school that’s not Jewish in nature but is entirely Hebrew-immersive. when was this hebrew language school approved? was it by the same board that had a hissyfit over approving basis? |
