| I love Wegmans. I can get everything I need for the week instead of going to 3 different stores. Lots of organic but also the basic stuff. |
|
I love Wegmans too! Our family passes three other grocery stores just to get to our beloved Wegmans.
If you are into Organic, they have a really great selection. If you like potato salad, their Homestyle kind is terrific, it is the only kind that is store bought I will compare as being as good as homemade. The best thing of all about Wegmans is the customer service. It is excellent. |
| Please don't skip it if you are in the area. The lines are never bad unlike Safeway and Giant around here. While the bakery is divine, they have plenty of good healthy food. Check out the seafood and produce- much better than any area stores and better prices. The meat selection is pretty unbelievable as well. Lastly, the organic section is pretty large. |
| If I lived close to one, I'd never go to Safeway or Giant ever again. It's like a combo Whole Foods/TJs/Safeway. |
|
I love Wegmans because it is as close to my beloved regional chain Byerly's, Lund's, and Kowalski's as I am going to get. I'm never too impressed with the produce, but their natural beauty section is huge. Well, every section is huge.
And there are humongous carts, but there are normaler sized ones, too. Just look for them. |
| I haven't been to another grocery store in this area since Wegmans openend. We are fortunate enough to live less than a mile from Wegmans. If you go opening weekend you are crazy -- I have done that and it is insane. I go during the week and it is never that bad. |
| Wegman's is great, but the Wegman's in Fairfax is hell. I live in between the Fairfax and Gainesville locations (or Haymarket, wherever it is) and drive the extra 5-10 minutes to avoid Fairfax. The crowds there are ri-di-cu-lous. |
| I agree with PP -- i am unreasonably upset that you would skip it! During the week and during the day the crowds aren't nearly as bad. I hope you stopped by and grabbed some dinners to go! |
| OP are you out there?? I have been wondering all week if you went! (lame i know) I hope you decided to check it out! |
| I also want to know! |
Haha. After all that, I didn't even get to go! Traffic was mostly light, however, the couple of spots where there was a lot of it really messed me up. Particularly Old Town Fairfax. I ended up with only 25 minutes left, including driving the 3 or so miles to the Wegman's, so I bagged it. I don't know how people with long commutes handle it -- my stress level would be so high! |
| I moved here this summer and Wegman's is my nearest grocery store- love it! The bakery is awesome- I love buying their Mini W bread loafs for soup/stew nights, and their coconut macaroon cookies are SO good! Their cheese section is amazing- so many different types of gourmet and specialty cheese. And the wine section! They stock one of my favorite mid-priced Rieslings (Loosen Bros). I admit, my Wegman's can get very crowded and navigation can be annoying if you go at the wrong time of day, but it's a lovely grocery store and I really enjoy it. |
| OP, like you, we never been to Wegman's. We don't have one near by. Idea of driving long distance does not appeal to me. |
My husband so adores Wegmans that we actually briefly thought about moving closer to the one in Fairfax. Then our current commute brought us back to our senses.

Went to Wegman's on Thursday. Not all it's cracked up to be - sorry Wegman-lovers. I'll take my local Safeway anyday. Not really any deals to be had either.
Maybe it's because I went after lunch and wasn't hungry. |
