Teachers do NOT make crap for pay. They are what's bringing this country down; and their unions. Haven't you been watching the news in Wisconsin lately? I know for a fact that Teachers and their union in MoCo make even more more money than those teachers in Wisconsin. |
The starting salary in MCPS is about $50k with a Master's Degree. I can attest that most teachers put in 12 hour days between school and at-home-work. Hence, I don't they are over-payed. If you want to see over-payed employee's in your backyard, take a look at some Federal Gov't workers; even uneducated clerical's (many functionally illiterate) make well over $50k and literally just show up to work. Even better, if you're a fairly attractive white woman, you'll be making over $100k in ten or so years, regardless of education or work ethic.... |
PP, you are hilarious. Do you really believe that TEACHERS are "what's bringing this country down"? Seriously? Or maybe you are right. Remember when teachers, public employees, Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in TARP money, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes? Oh wait. Me neither. |
The issue that we should be concerned about is not related to teachers--those are the people for which COSAs make sense.
There are two ways in which overcrowding in Bethesda/North Bethesda/Rockville schools is being impacted by COSAs, unrelated to teachers. 1: there is a long-standing agreement between MCPS and (I believe) NIH that their scientists can (even not living within boundaries) send their kids to local schools. 2: elem schools that have childcare programs within their buildings nd up "keeping the kids as elem students" when the younger siblings are in the before care programs. There are several schools for which COSAs really do impact the school. I know for a fact that one school has at least 25 COSAs which is one teacher/classroom. When we are talking about schools that are busting at the seams, with portables all over, one class of COSAs makes a difference. |
I don't think what PP has mentioned is true. We know one of our friends who tried and tried to get their magnet kid to attend bethesda/kensington school as both parents worked on NIH campus and the kid had health problems and the county denied the application. They are of different color and race than the majority in those areas. So there is no such undrestanding between NIH and the MCPS. |
PP 8:08, to clear the facts, me and my spouse are both federal employees and work more than 12 hours almost every day. Some days eat our dinner after picking up the kids at work to keep the deadlines and to stay in the race of getting success one day. Of course we are not white and came from another country. Are not treated fairly compared to those who had education here and have better communication skills. And I am sure we are one of those families whose one person was working all the days in the past thanksgiving holidays. We rae also expected to work from home . You have to be one of us to realize how the government and the private sector differs when it comes to the salaries and the hours of work based on your education skills. |
I'm annoyed that we even have to have this conversation because of the inequality of opportunities to learn in Montgomery County Schools. We all pay taxes and yet, some get served crap on a platter while others get served gold. |
I typically don't do this, but it's entirely appropriate here. PP, if you're going to accuse others of being "functionally illiterate" you should proofread your post so that it shows more than a passing familiarity with proper usage and grammar. |
I think this poster is speaking from experience. |
