Day after Thanksgiving confession....

Anonymous
We are closed the day after Thanksgiving but I always work the week between Xmas and New Years. My family is all local so no need to travel. Plus, by that point, my leave is mostly used up anyway. Everyone is thankful that they can travel to see their families because I can cover the office and I am happy that I don't have to do all that much.

In fact, I feel that way about most of August and December--they are the worst two months to take vacation for me because they are the easiest months in the office.

Because my MIL will be visiting, I may actually have to work ON Thanksgiving in addition to the day after.

Just so we're clear, you're going through the motions of going into the office, but you're not working.

My DD's daycare is closed that day and DH works, so I can't work even if I wanted to. Blah!

I may have taken a more leisurely lunch and dressed down on those holiday days when I worked places that didn't close on those days, but I was definitely still working - those days were great for taking care of all the little things I'd been putting off for more urgent projects, filing random papers on my desk, etc.

I don't see the benefit in coming into work just to stare at my screen and/or surf the Internet. I'd just as well skip the early wake-up and hour long commute. I love my "me" time as much as the next Mom (4 kids here), but would choose being at home with family any day over being at work.

Oh man yes yes yes!

It really is astonishing that for so many people (myself included) emergencies come that require us to work when family is here. Just bad luck, I guess.

Hey this sounds like every holiday and Sundays at the place I used to work at. Sad.

Of all "holidays" to work, the day after Thanksgiving will never be one of them for me. The wonder of having 4 days off in a row at such an exciting time of the year will never make me go into work. It's also a useful big block of time to get a lot of stuff done in advance of the Christmas rush. I LOVE Thanksgiving weekend. Love it.
