caffeine

I drink a cup of coffee every morning too, which my doc says is fine.

Here's one link to some popular press coverage of the two studies done earlier this year. The one with 1000 women showed that women who consumed caffeine had elevated risk of miscarriage. The one with 2000 women showed they didn't.

I'd be more worried about the aspartame than the caffeine.

The OP's question did not ask about Diet Coke, and the only PP who cited her own Diet Coke use (me) did not ask whether anyone would be concerned with aspartame. In fact, after the first time someone made the aspartame comment, I said specifically that I was fine with it. And I still am.

If you are worried about aspartame, don't drink any.

Before the pregnancy, diet coke and tea were daily necessities! Once I got the news, I switched to decaf tea and caffeine-free diet coke. Most of the time I don't notice the difference.

That said, I will allow myself the occasional caffeinated tea or diet coke if I am really dragging, if I'm out with friends and the bar doesn't have non-alcoholic options or if I'm facing a long drive and need to stay alert. I don't feel guilty about that - I'm being so good otherwise.

My $0.02 - have a coke once in awhile. (you might notice that it gets your baby all wired up. it does for me!)

During my first pregnancy I cut out all drinkable caffeine (I still had chocolate!). This one, I drank 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning but after a couple weeks, I just didn't want it anymore. So I only drink a cup or two when I have a taste for it. But I don't feel guilty about it. If they say you can have it, have it. There are too many other things you are NOT supposed to have.

I am also craving coke right now for some reason (32 weeks), and it does help with nausea. I was worried I was drinking too much caffeine since I also usually had a cup of tea in the morning. But a 12 oz coke only has 34 mg of caffeine. I thought the caffeine limit was 150 mg/day, so I was fine having both the tea and the coke. You should be fine.
