| We all agree that a PS3 option would be great. Especially me, a current parent with a new one on the way. The school does have quite a lot on its plate. Construction is still under way, and I know Ipads for the kids were on the plate last year, but had to be side-barred for the new construction. Also, the school increases a year per grade, so preparations have to be made for annual expansion. If not 2012, hopefully, we can implement the PS3 program by 2013/14 school year. I am very happy with the school, and its wonderful aftercare program. |
| Given that there has been no planning for the middle school at Yu Ying, which is starting in less than 2 years, it seems like PS3 is a bit much at the moment. |
Agree. While everyone would love YY to have an immersion PS3, the MUCH more urgent need is planning out a middle school. If it's not implemented in a satisfactory way, many current families will not stay. |
Ahem. Believe it or not, deciding to add a year of instruction actually requires a charter ammendment. Have you taken a look at the charter application process? And weighed it against the priorities of new construction and middle school preparation? No? I didn't think so. |
There has been lots of planning. Don't assume you're important enough to know all the details. |
| Well, to be fair, the principal said to a room full of parents last year that planning for the middle school wouldn't start until December 2011. I'm not important, and I don't know all the details, but I too assume little to no planning has taken place due to the timeline given by the principal last year. I'm not stressed out because 21 months seems like plenty of time. But given that education isn't my profession I wouldnt really know. |
| Planning is and has been taking place. |
| 1501, thanks. Your attitude is the trademark of the school and the reason all these threads devolve. Hugs and kisses. |
| No, the attitude of the snotty person is their attitude. Don't stereotype 350 + families- it lowers the conversation and let's people hide behind a group instead of calling out rudeness when you see it. |
| PP, you are so right. It's rude and obnoxious to a lot of people both YY and non-YY parents. |
This is exactly why we have decided that YY would not be a good fit for our family. How obnoxious! |

I'm not sure Pre-S and Pre-K are funded the same way. Does anyone know? Vince Gray pushed through universal Pre-K (without creating spots at all schools - especially those WOTP), but I don't think Pre-S is universal. It might not have funding or the same amount of funding? Just something to consider unless someone knows otherwise.
Another consideration is potty-training. Most 4 year-olds are potty-trained, therefore teachers don't object to teaching them. Many 3 year-olds are not. Maybe the challenge of classroom management with full immersion and potty-training is more than they wanted to take on. Again, just a thought. |

Remember this is an anonymous forum - impossible to know who's being rude. In this case, the person in question may or may not be a YY parent. Which is why although DC Urban Mom has been incredibly helpful to me, I take all posts with a grain of salt.
