DCUM Class warfare

Here's a few things:
1) It's easier to be irresponsible on HHI or $250k than $150k, and much easier than $75k.
2) The rich don't deserve one bit of fellatio for being rich. It's not like they're creating jobs.
3) Some poor people and people in trouble are where they are because they're dumbasses, either in school, or through a string of bad decisions.

Who creates jobs?

Well I keep hearing how the rich create jobs and we've gotta be really nice to them so they'll create jobs. Now with unemployment over 9%, the rich aren't keeping their end of the bargain, now are they?

To Usernameman: Either I have no idea what you're saying or I disagree. At the very least, yeah, we'll need a cite for the "if people don't fall into money directly many more fall into its benefits" (paraphrasing). Or maybe I'm just blinded by my own situation: poor girl meets poor boy, both work tails off, take out education debt, work tails off, pay off education debt, encounter zero additional debt (except reasonable mortgage), work tails off, make sacrifices, send kids to public school and now, voila, we're "rich." Hooray. Now increase our taxes (because we lack empathy?).

(And props for the cool crop quoting. Sometime could you spin off and educate the rest of us on doing that? No joke)

To 9:52: do I know you?

Excellent point. People make choices in life, but then resent and/or are jealous of the choices and sacrifices made by others. Class warfare is out of control in America. There was a time when the American dream was to work hard and then reap the benefits of your labor. In today's America, you are vilified if you are financially successful.

You are also villified if you are not. How much have federal workers been getting slammed for being over paid, under worked, lazy, etc. etc? The VAST majority of who make under $100K. When federal workers are seen as overpaid, we have a real problem. Like crabs in a bucket trying to pull each other down.

Hilarious. You heard President Obama say that right before he raised taxes on "the rich." You're going to blame the typical DC lawyer/accountant (aka Obama rich) for the country's unemployment? I'd laugh more but I'm 4 hours into my billable day and have 8 hours left to go.

Our family is doing well. I am really surprised that for for many posting honestly don't understand why people would be jealous or resentful is crazy! Human nature--why would someone not be jealous watching TV or seeing firsthand how some people live a life full of material wealth

The poor and working class have had war declared on them for years in this country, so give me a fucking break. Just like we should feel SO bad about returning the highest bracket to the same level it was a decade ago. Give me a goddamn break! Sorry we refuse to swallow after you've stuck us in the can.

So wait you want them to also create jobs and then pay more taxes to fund large government?

He didn't raise taxes on the rich. He's talked about it, but it hasn't happened yet. The highest earners are currently paying the lowest income tax rate in decades, and have been since the early 00s. I'd say they've been shirking their job-making duty.

10:06 I have worked in the private sector and for the federal government. From my experience, the vast majority of federal workers (at least in my prior agency) were grossly overpaid. The work habits and work product would never cut it in the private sector. Our tax dollars used to "create jobs" that would be unsustainable in the private sector.

10:16 47% of American's pay NO federal income tax and, in many cases, receive tax credits (how that can be when they pay no taxes is laughable) in the form of direct payments. How is that having war declared on them?

To me, if you want to show you are well raised: learn how to treat others, be considerate of their time and attention, be reciprocal, mind your business, strive against yourself to be a better person, count only your OWN pennies, and assume nothing.

Yes, ITA! All the important things, that people seem to forget.

Right, and do you know when the nation's unemployment was the lowest? You really need to get your "facts" from more than one op ed you read.

NPR did a great story on the wealth of white families vs. black families. (The typical white family has 20 times the wealth of the median black family. That's the largest gap in 25 years.)

OP claims that 90% of the wealthy worked hard for their $$, but there are subtle ways in which the wealthy (frequently white) have an advantage:

"Study after study shows that white families are more likely than blacks and Hispanics to enjoy certain economic advantages — even when their incomes are similar. Often it's the subtle things: help from Mom and Dad with a down payment on a home or college tuition, or a tax break on money passed from one generation to the next."

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/15/140428359/making-it-in-the-u-s-more-than-just-hard-work

(And for what it's worth, I'm white and relatively privileged, but at least I can admit the existence of the privileged.)

So now you want racial taxation? Take from white families and give to blacks?

Oh please OP people with money often make snide comments about folks who don't have money. Not all. But enough.
