If that is what you think, it must be very frustrating to observe the current crop of Republican presidential contenders. The latest great white hope is crashing faster than that satellite that is suppose to fall any minute. Every debate so far has been a PR disaster for the Republicans. The reality is that you don't even have someone capable of beating a so-called press secretary or company spokesperson.

One of the contributing economic problems is housing needs to be ALLOWED to flush out. Flush out hard, fast, and painful. No loan MODS no second chances. The foreclosures need to happen, they need to be fast tracked. No squatters who live in homes months and YEARS without paying. This slow death of housing is a drag. Prices need to plummet fast and start the process of re adjustment. We need to take our punches and begin to rebuild. There should be NO loans WHATSOEVER given to people who cannot afford to put skin in the game in the form of a 20% down payment. Loans should only be given to people with excellent credit and debt/income ratios of no more than 25%.

This is only part of the problem, but it would be a good start if we stopped viewing home ownership as a right rather than a hard earned privilege.

Government doesn't get to decide a lot of this, though. Banks do. It's up to them whether they want a 20% cushion. And almost no one could buy a house with a 25% debt to income ratio. That means your loan is 3 months salary+bonus.
