| Why no French manicure? |
Sorry, a joke from a different thread. |
| I actually find the pants suit more professional than the skirt suit. |
I don't think skirt suits are strange. But, i do think that they are mostly not flattering on women. Regardless of how fit someone is. They are just ugly, imo. But I would not NOT hire someone b/c they were in a suit w/ a skirt. |

Now that we're on the skirt suit subject, my question for HR professionals is "hose or no hose?" Would you consider a bare-legged applicant unprofessional?
|
Agree with this, as someone who is currently interviewing for an EA. |
Interesting, because I find that pants suits are less often flattering. I'm short-legged and hippy and always look terrible in pants suits, but look great with the right length and shape of skirt, so I'm probably biased to noticing the bad pants suits I see out and about. |
? what does corn in your pockets mean? |
Agree. I have a Serena William-esque booty, so I don't really want to put that on display during an interview. Would only feel comfortable if jacket hits below my butt, but that would look odd. A skirt gives me a less video vixen appearance. |
| I wear skirt/suits because I am short (5'2) and have never found a pants suit that looks flattering on me. I find that you need to be tall to pull it off. I think both are equally professional. |
I am short too and this is so true. I agree - pants are fine if part of a suit. Being short, I can't "pull them off." I would wear hosiery to an interview for sure. (But then never again!) |
| I agree with those who are saying a suit, doesn't matter if it's pants or a skirt. Go with whichever one flatters you the most and in which you are most comfortable. B/c if you hate wearing skirts and you wear one to an interview, you might be fidgety or just look uncomfortable, and it will show. A good flattering suit, with a nice, tasteful necklace and other accessories, and you're good to go. |
| So kind of a spin-off... what about dress suits? (Jacket and dress, usually sheath style, in same fabric.) Are they considered less formal than pants suits and skirt suits? I love wearing dresses to the office (vs two-piece outfits) and would love to add a dress suit or two to my wardrobe, but I'm wondering whether a dress suit would look inherently less "serious" in a more formal setting like an interview, court appearance, high-level meeting, etc. |
| Dress suits are perfect - just more difficult to find. They do need to actually be a suit though - not a dress with a black blazer thrown over (to qualify as the same as a pant/skirt suit) |
