I get a snicker out of the distinction between "living" room and "family" room. What, like a family doesn't "live" here?
I live in my living room. As such, the furniture is the best mix of comfortable and practical; only one chair really faces the TV (yes, there's a TV). There are tons of bookshelves, some of which contain baskets for toys. My daughter's dollhouse is in one corner (a pretty, classic wood one, not a pink plastic monstrosity), on a table that has a basket underneath for her mini furniture and dolls and other bits and pieces. We do have a basement playroom, but it's really more my husband's playroom. All his books and computers and other techy paraphernalia live there, as well as some toys. Favorites are upstairs, though. We like to have the whole family together in the living room. |
| We walk directly into our living room from the front door, and the family room/tv/toys are in the basement. We truly live in both, and I DO have some toys in the living room in case they want to be in the same floor as me while I make food, etc. |
08:43 here. We like to have the whole family together in the living room, too, but if e.g. the kids want to play on the Wii, or watch a movie, and DH and I want to read the Sunday papers or visit with adult friends, I'm glad that we have the family room for the kids to play in. Not sure why such a thing merits a "snicker." ::shrug:: |
