Owner's Title Insurance

I would buy it. It's overpriced. However, it's one of those things, if you don't get it, you'll end up needing it. this is how I looked at it, the cost was less than one month's rent at the place I was living in before buying my house.

What is the best way to shop around and negotiate the rate? My lender recommends a certain company, but it's always nice to know if I can get a better deal. Are all of the title insurance policies basically the same or do you get what you pay for? What is the best way to ensure you are comparing apples to apples?

What state are you in? In some states the government literally setae rate (ie md). The policy form is standardized.
