Micro-suede = tacky?

I wouldn't say it is "tacky," but I wouldn't buy one. Crate and Barrel makes sofas with slipcovers. They're tailored for the piece and look very nice, and most are washable. You can order new ones in any fabric you like when the old ones get tired/faded. The new slipcovers aren't cheap, but they're definitely cheaper than a new couch.

In our living room we have dark brocade-like fabric on the sofas. We picked it to be tolerant of black dog furs and red wine, plus kids. And it is a commercial grade fabric that is very wear-resistant. If you are afraid that microsuede is to casual, look for something like that instead.

And I second the recommendation to just not allow eating or drinking on the couch by the under 10 set, except for water. It is supposedly healthier to only eat at the dining or kitchen table anyhow.

What a smart idea! Thanks for sharing!!

We have a gorgeous rust red microfiber sofa. It has a retro 50s look, and we get tons of compliments on it. It had held up well to spit ups, food stains and a vomiting cat. We got it at Reincarnations on 14th Street.

It's tacky. Just buy a high quality leather sofa and it will look much classier and hold up great to spills, etc

I hear that they won't let you join Chevy Chase Club if you have a microsuede sofa.

I don't think microsuede is tacky, and it can be really comfortable for a couch.

Isn't it possible to buy one that is treated to repel liquids/stains? I think my that's what my neighbor had.

Am I the only one that doesn't like leather?

I have a light-blue retro-style velour microfiber in my living room. Very clean lines, as opposed to the overstuffed, more casual microfiber sofa I have in our family room. I think each are appropriate for the room they are in.

I don't like it either but my husband does.

No, 10:16, I don't like leather either. It's feels so gross to the touch. I just assume that everyone who has a leather sofa in their home is smoker, and picked it in the hopes that it wouldn't absorb as much stink as fabric, the same way as the cigar rooms at men's clubs are all furnished in leather.

Now I'm gonna be humming that tune all day!

OP, I can't believe you are asking people in D.C. what is tacky - that is the funniest thing I have heard all day! Thanks for the laugh!
