Infertility Support and Discussion

40 years old on first and second IUI.
We had lots of follicles, my Estrogen was through the roof on both...meaning I likely had a LOT of egg producing follicles. I had gotten spontaneously pregnant in the past (no problem with my pipes or my DH's 'ability' to get me pregnant). BFN both times... It took us three IVFs, with 6 day 5 blasts transferred at each IVF (so 18 embryos all together) to get our b/g twins. So...there really is no way to know when the golden egg(s) will present itself. |

Hi, I wonder if the success rates, usually from studies 3-11 years ago, really are accurate in today's world. Even just in the last 2 years, we've seen a big societal change where single women and lesbians are attempting pregnancy (and often at later ages) like never before. These women usually do not have a history of TTC and they are not guaranteed to have fertility problems. Without these women included in a study of 40-somethings, can the success rates really be accurate for all women TTC at age 40+? Maybe, maybe not. On the other hand, everything I see says that age, even beyond fertility issue, is the biggest barrier to pregnancy.
Here's a study that I found which did cover single women and lesbians. http://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/15/3/621.full It's for all ages though the average ages of the participants is mid-to-late 30s. 1999 is the year it was done. Maybe someone can read and let me know if they have any important takeaways. |
