Typical, or worth investigating?

NP here. What levels of intelligence are you talking about when you say extremely bright? I have a kid who is smart - we haven't done specific IQ testing - and has some of these behaviors, especially not saying hello or goodbye to friends.

Does anyone think a language-based learning disability could cause some of these behaviors?

There's a lot of info out there -- google Dabrowski's Overexcitabilities in gifted children and you can get a lot of good information. I'm not an expert but I don't know that the hello/goodbye thing would necessarily apply, but it's worth reading about.

I think these things don't correlate exactly to specific IQ ranges, but rather are general characteristics. My guess is they are talking about IQ levels over 130 or so, but as a kid's IQ gets higher, there are lots of differences that manifest themselves as behavioral/emotional that go along with that. Plus there are certain traits that are associated with being GTLD, too.
