Sibling Preference and Withdrawal

How do you define "better fit"? It's really too bad that new school doesn't have preschool. In DCPS you can probably make the case that you don't have other options this late in the game. If your older child really needs the new school and as there are no other siblings on waitlist, it seems reasonable to admit the younger for preschool (if that's the grade) based on your original assumption.

It sounds like a tough situation OP. Hopefully things will work out for you and your children.

At charter schools, this is incorrect. If the graduating sibling is still a current student during the spring lotteries, (when the younger sibling is trying to enroll for the next school year), then sibling preference still applies. Once the older one is gone, the school doesn't save a space for some future child.
