I earn three times as much as my friend who is a teacher and two times as much as another friend who is a physical therapist, and hell probably five times as much as another friend who works for a non-profit serving low income people. And I probably don't work more hours than they do.

OP here- you're not really helping me here. I know you are acknowledging that we are disproportionately paid compared to people who do equally admirable work, but it seems like a lot of what gets us a bad rap on here is the talk about pay.

A good friend of mine was sacked from the first associate job he had because, poor naive thing that he was, he settled a case that his firm had been litigating for several years, cutting off the revenue stream from that client. The client was elated, and he lost his job. Enough said?

LMAO. This is so off-base: I can't decide if it is so funny it's sad or is it so sad it's funny?

Ok, you can stop crying into your piles of money. Look this rant seems odd since it seems EVERYONE is a lawyer in DC (big law, nonprofits, gov). Are you really mad at the handful of DCUM posters who aren't lawyers?! They are a very vocal minority. Seriously cut the McDonald's workers some slack!

This is why we can't stand DOL.

OP - are you really that bothered random lawyer bashing posts in an anonymous forum? Grow a thicker skin, already, or opposing counsel in your next deposition may make you cry.

What is DOL?

You couldn't pay me enough money to lead the lives that you all lead. Glued to your blackberries, 60-70 hour work weeks, stashes of money that can only be spent on material crap because no one has time to go on vacation . . . .aaah.

And - my sister is a lawyer. Supposedly a "neutral arbiter" of a public fund for people with certain types of injuries. She is not neutral. She brags that she's able to get people who have already proven in a court of law that they were injured by her employer's product to settle for less than she was authorized to give.

Many of you ARE horrible people.

Hmmm...see: politicians.

That is redundant. The majority of politicians are also lawyers.

This. Also, most of the lawyers on this board have the same dry style of writing which makes their posts easily identifiable.

I can name 5 other groups that are bashed far more often on this board. Toughen up!

OP here- people seem to get a little snarkier towards the end of the day... I do fine in depositions and in court, thank you. My original post just served provide some food for thought to folks who demean lawyers.

To 17:25- I am equally disappointed with the federal worker bashing on the board as well. A few bad apples in both our professions seem to taint the impression of the bunch.
