Private & Independent Schools
|
01:56 here,
To 07:57, my ranking was based more towards Middle & Upper School Years. Honestly speaking, in terms of lower school, majority of the private schools in the DMV are pretty equal. However, some are stronger and focus on specific areas than others. For example, I believe Edlin School in Reston, VA tends to focus its curriculum towards math and science. At the LS level, I believe it's just a matter of where your child fits and what school "feels right." To 17:11, I've had 3 children and both DH and I have grown up in the DMV and have attended schools from Tier 1 & 2. Our DC have gone to FHS at one point of their lives since it's located so near to our school, but they all transferred to Tier 1 & Tier 2 schools. 2 have already graduated from Tier 1 and Tier 2 Schools. The other is going to graduate soon from a tier 2 school. Having gone to these types of schools and having/had 3 children in DMV prep schools, I have a fair amount of knowledge on how these schools stack up. I'm not trying to be any "Harvard Study" on these schools, but just giving my thoughts. |
| So, to the PP, is it your conclusion, based on your own personal experience which based is on your reps include have DC at the school, that at the end of the day, FHS really isn't what its cracked up to be, that being a private independent top notch "prep school"? Their "exmissions" seem to suggest that they do place students at the top colleges? |
I can't tell if you're trying to be obtuse but pps have stated that the 2011 FHS grads were an exceptional group with terrific exmissions to show for it. |
| It's really difficult to know where a school ranks. Excisions is one way, but each yr can be different based on the number of legacies in a given class, the contacts with specific colleges, etc. (I'm not speaking specifically to FHS, just in general.) So much of what parents get is anecdotal information, and a general "sense" and "feel" for the schools. Obviously those who have had graduates from the schools have better information than those who haven't, but that information will be dated (no disrespect intended, it's just fact. And those with current students will have the most up-to-date information, but with no information regarding where students go on to college or how easily students move from HS to college. In short, it's a trade-off. And yes, of course, parents use this forum to gather information. No one is suggesting that anyone would blindly take the information found here without investigating each of the schools they're interested in more fully in order to find the right "fit" for their child. That's just ridiculous. Thank you to everyone who contributes and gives us all food for thought. |
Are you trying to hunt down the PP?? He or she simply gave their thoughts, take it easy. |
