Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)

NP here - and a Wakefield parent that watched all the school redistricting from the web and from talking with neighbors. I do get the feeling that people feel like without Wakefield, AHS will go to pot - as if there is something special about wakefield. If the school cannot achieve standards without a middle and uppermiddle class (mostly middle) hood in the school, then there are other problems that need to be addressed. There is a tone of racism, that the minority kids can't hack it and don't contribute to the school. AHS leaders and teachers need to focus on the minority kids and stop the campaign to 'save AHS' - from what? itself? Get those kids in the IB program. Get them on the football team. They should already be there.
and ps, 60 percent of the worlds population is not white, but it is in most of the USA. I would hardly call wakefield "upscale." with a few exceptions around private lane and a couple of other streets, wakefield is one of the cheaper neighborhoods to buy in. Truro is not in the district - those kids go to woodson. and what is wrong with a property value increase? What makes values increase - a better school district. People with kids care about that and should care. The reason the east side of wakefield chapel road is cheaper than across the street is simple - the school district. Oh well, here we go with another debate about redistricting. I hope the school board just makes their decision and ends this. |
