Your Ghost Stories

One of my friends worked at an old in NY and she used to tell me stories of things happening while she cleaned the rooms. Things like water running in the bathroom on its own, the plug from the vacuum cleaner coming out of the socket on its own, etc.

My grandmother's house was not always the happiest place and there are certainly some spirits trapped in there (although, I hope the complete renovation and change of people living in it helped when it was sold). When I was younger, I would hear all sorts of strange noises that had no explanation (pots being thrown when nobody was in the kitchen, etc.).

In addition, I encountered a ghost at my former job (my office was in an old house). I had heard there were ghosts in the building but did not believe it for myself until I was followed down a hall. I did not see the ghost but there was an undeniable presence, footsteps, and cold air on my neck. The worst part was that it would stop moving if I did.

Visit Woodlawn Plantation after the sun has gone down. I was there for a party and one of the last to leave. It was so dark and I went back in the house and wouldn't leave until I was between two cars. The house is also haunted. I believe they have a Halloween tour. If you don't believe, you will.

We got married at Woodlawn, and everyone who wandered around the house came back freaked out (to varying degrees). I got the feeling, too. The thing is, none of knew the stories about it being haunted until later. I didn't know until I read about their Halloween tour the next year.

I had an ex boyfriend who lived in Arlington. His apartment never really felt right. It was always cold even with the heat on. He would tell me the windows would open by themselves and I figured that it was just because the building was old. Well, I experienced it for myself and it was NOT a slow opening of a window. It was as if someone threw it open with all their might. Could still be a logical explanation though. However, there is no logical explanation for the ball we saw fly across the room. I was standing in the doorway and he was bent over in the closet. I saw a white ball (size of a softball) fly from the window across the room and land in the closet. I said " stop messing with me". He said "um, no, you are messing with me". We both were frozen in place with our hearts pounding. We bolted out of there shortly after. I never went back.

Another time, I was at a friends house that was supposed to be haunted. We went to sleep that night and I woke up in the middle of the night and heard her dog panting outside the door . Then it sounded like someone was walking down the stairs and I figured it was her parents. But then it was constant and started to sound like it was coming from above us...which is the attic. This went on for a couple of minutes and then just suddenly stopped. My heart was racing and I finally woke her up and told her what happened. She said her Mom hears footsteps all the time.

Once, when I was spending the night at her house when her parents were out of town, we were up late watching TV when I heard sounds like someone was moving around the kitchen, opening cabinets and getting a glass of water. No one was home but us. Another time, I smelled tobacco smoke when no one in the house smoked. Apparently a previous owner smoked a pipe. My friend just blew it off saying, "oh, that's just the smoking ghost."

I love this!

I saw a ghost at Valley Forge once with my boyfriend in high school one night, laying in a field looking at the stars. Suddenly I sat straight up and gasped, like I lost my breath. A young man was sitting RIGHT next to our feet, one leg bent, arm resting on his knee, staring at the monument near where we parked. I nudged my boyfriend, the guy got up and starting walking toward the monument. I said, aren't you going to say something? to my boyfriend. He got up, starting following the guy, and I said Wait, Don't leave me here alone! Boyfriend turned to look at me and when we turned around the guy had vanished. No way he could have gotten back to the parked cars in time. And we never heard footsteps on the grass either.

I felt my mother in the room with me during the birth of both of my children. For my first child, I felt her standing behind me in the corner of the delivery room. For the second child, I felt her in my hospital room with me after the birth. My second child was very ill in the NICU. I was tossing and turning all night. I felt someone pull a blanket up over me and then I felt so warm and secure and dozed off. I asked the nurse if she had done it the next monring and she said no.

In broad daylight at Point Lookout, MD, I was walking on trail through the woods with my just born son while my husband was fishing. I saw what looked to be a solider in the woods in my peripheral vision, when I turned to look at him straight on, he was gone. I shuddered and felt really odd, not necessarily scared, but odd. I later discovered that many people have reported seeing ghosts there. It was a prison during the civil war...I'm getting the chills just thinking about it.

That is really beautiful. My grandmother was 92 and in the hospital with hours left to live. My aunt was there and out of no where, my grandmother smiles really big. My aunt asked her what she was smiling at and my grandmother replied that she saw her mother (my grandmother lost her mother when she was 16). I thought that was very beautiful and made her passing easier for me, since I knew her mom was with her.

When I was little, there was a bedroom in my uncle's house that my cousins and I were all afraid of. We visited a lot and never liked having to sleep in that room (the guest room). The house was not that old. We later found out that a child had been murdered in the house (my Uncle bought it because it was really inexpensive) and the room we were afraid of had been her room.

My best friend had imaginary friends and an imaginary dog growing up. She lived in a 150 year old house. Her parents recently read into neighborhood history and it turns out her old imaginary friends from 25 years ago lived near the house over 100 years earlier. Her toddler niece later had the same friends.

I wish this had happened to me.

I was on a plane once and looked out the window and there was a silver ball that looked about the size of a softball floating next to the plane. I turned to the guy next to me and he said "Oh is that one of those silver ball things?". I have NO idea what it was or how this guy knew what I was talking about (he couldn't see out the window). I have tried googling but cannot for the life of me figure this out.

Ball lightning maybe? I've seen it before (from the ground) and it's very weird.
