Preschool and Daycare Discussion
We pay for 2 weeks of vacation. We also have to make alternative arragements and pay for that too. It sucks, but yeah...
We also had to do this, I think it's standard, like someone else said, you get paid for vacation correct? Plus, I was very happy with our provider and couldn't imagine having such a hard job caring for a bunch of other people's kids 8 hours...ours took 2 weeks and we usually just ended up making that our 2 week vacation time as well. By the end of the 2 weeks we would have paid her anything to take our kids back!
I am an in-home daycare provider.I only make parents pay for the major holidays that we are closed because I also pay my assistants. But I feel it is not reasonable to make parents pay when I am closed for vacation, infact I give them a break upto one week of vacation every year when they are on vacation.
We did not have a contract but we did pay her for vacations. Our daycare was worth every penny we ever spent!
The lady I just left has in her contract two weeks for vacation in the summer (one in the beginning and one in the end), one week around Christmas, every holiday including Good Friday and Easter Monday and she allows herself 15 days of "personal" days throughout the week. All of which I have to pay for and find alternative care for my baby. Not to mention she wasn't going to give me my security deposit back. Crazy right?

A daycare is a business, not a charity. If you are not open for business, I am not paying you. This is not an employer/employee relationship. You are running a business and I am paying for a service. If you are not providing that service, then I am not paying for it.

It's in our contract that we pay her for one week (7 business days). Yes, it sucks, and yes we end up paying double. But we like her that much. The centers around me suck, so this is still better.
