Our son was born in June. He wore onesies everyday (even before the stump fell off) until it got cool in the fall and was swaddled in an Aden and Anais muslin blanket most of the time, less and less as he got older. The Aden and Anais blankets are awesome - we had these and some other bamboo/muslin blankets we liked a lot. We put him in thin long sleeve footies with long sleeves if it was on the cooler side and we were going out to the ped or a store. Otherwise, just made sure he was covered in a blanket for walks. He preferred to be swaddled, even in the carriage. Had some cute outfits, no tshirts (annoying because they ride up), no socks (annoying because they fall off and we didn't need them since he was swaddled).
The nurses at the hospital told us to follow the plus one rule - whatever we are wearing plus one. It can get hot here in the summer, but if they are in AC, they'll be fine. My son was a little heat magnet from day 1, so I had to be careful on the plus one with him.
My brother was born in July in India - scorching! They dressed him in light cotton dress-like clothes. Breathable, not too tight. Not sure what the gender-appropriate equivalent in the US would be, but i'm sure that anything that doesn't fit too snugly, and is made from light, breathable material would work just fine.
Uh, this post is from 1.5 years ago. Looks like it was resurrected by spam, but I'm sure OP has figured it out by now.

True, but summer's on the way and it's good information to have anyway!
