Where are this year's Mann graduates going?

Murch and Janney is a very different story from Mann because Mann feeds Hardy and the other two feed Deal. I'll try to phrase this gently to avoid another 15-page debate, but Deal seems to have no trouble attracting in-boundary families, whereas the relationship between Hardy and the in-boundary community has been the subject of a lot of discussion.

I'm the parent of a fifth grader at a JKLM school and I'll say this is a subject that no one wants to talk about and everyone is intensely curious about. If you're not continuing public you're abandoning your classmates who are going public, and competing with your classmates for charter and private spots. It's touchy.

Thanks - that sounds plausible. Meanwhile, by the beginning of the next school year, everyone will at least know whether or not other people's kids stayed with DCPS.

Maybe we could ask here for people just to say whether or not they are staying with DCPS, with other info (where they're going and why) being optional and not open to discussion.

Do Mann parents feel their kids are so special they are not able to post on an anonymous forum where they are choosing to send their kids next year? Seems pretty silly.

Maybe Mann parents are too busy to respond to trolls.

I've had 2 kids go through a JKLM and know a few families with kids at Mann. I will say that from talking to them, it seems as if most Mann kids go to private school. At our JKLM school, with my first kid, a lot of children left for private after 3rd grade, after 5th grade and after 6th grade. With my younger kid, a lot fewer children went to private; I think maybe 8 or 9 went to private and the rest to Deal. We went private; while we think Deal has come a long way, we really don't like the high school options.

historically 100% of Mann goes private.

I assumed this threasd was gossiping about where the class ended up. No one ever expected any of the children in bounds for Mann to wind up at Hardy.

Future Mann parent here. Appletree, Mann, Hardy then Wilson.

I'm not sure I understand this post. Are you telling us what your plans are for your child who is not yet in K? If so, things might change as your child gets older...

This is fascinating. Thanks for the PPs with real info. What are the privates that Mann, Murch and Janney grads go to? Anything around 20k a year or under, or are they all the 28-30k Sidwell, GDS, etc. type schools. And do decent numbers get in? How many people, like one of the PP's, move to MoCo or VA for the schools?

Once again - traditionally all Mann grads go private. Given this, to answer your question - yes decent numbers get in.

A handful of 4th graders and a 5th grader or two are going to Washington Latin.

I'm the PP with 2 kids who went to a JKLM school (not Mann) and then went private. I can think of about 20 of my kids friends who all went to JKLM schools in the last 5 years (including Mann), and they went to: Sidwell, St. Albans, Maret, GDS, Landon, St. Anselm's, Edmund Burke, Field, Potomac, NCS, Holton Arms, and St. John's.

Thanks. 11:27 here. This is interesting to me because I have a 2 year old and we are IB for Murch, and I am interested in knowing about different middle school options that's don't require moving -- especially charter, Deal, and cheaper private.

(And 23:02 yes - I did understand the previous post about most of Mann going private, but, to be technical, my question was broader: 1) Janney and Murch in addition to Mann, and 2) by implication, do decent numbers get in to the Sidwell, GDS type schools - in the event we have and decide it is worth it to shell out that amount of money.)

I'm 16:19. Mann is very different from Murch, in that the vast majority of Murch kids in the alst 2 years have gone to Deal, which seems to be very popular in Ward 3 right now.
