Infertility Support and Discussion
|
OP, we used http://www.lovingdonation.com/ to finde our ED. We wanted someone who looked somewhat like my wife and SG did not have many donors of Scandinavian descent.
We were very happy with loving donations, they gave us lots of information on the donor and they had a large number of potential donors. Our insurance didn't pay anything toward the donation process. |
| We were really fortunately that our insurance did cover DE - it covered the donor's and our medication, dr's visits, procedures and IVF lab costs. It didn't cover the donor compensation. The insurance coverage varies by policy. |

Wow - 16:00. What insurance do you have?
I don't think any of the feds cover it do they? |
|
The Feds definitely do *not* cover DE. We recently completed our first donor cycle and I'm now in my second trimester. Federal BC/BS paid for some ultrasounds/bloodwork and that's basically it. The rest can be deducted on your taxes. Be sure to keep good records.
Also, consider carefully how picky you are about donors before choosing a clinic. Some clinics have a very small pool. Others have larger pools but provide very limited information about their donors. If you want a good selection with lots of information like adult pictures you may be better off going through an agency, which is what we ultimately did. The trade-off of course is cost. Using an agency donor will generally be more expensive that using a clinic's pool. Good luck! |

I'm 16:00 - DH works for a Big 3 consulting firm and we can choose amongst UHC, BCBS and Aetna. All offered fertility coverage, including donor egg, up to $25K lifetime max.

Holy smokes! I'm big 3 too, but my level of Aetna only covered 6 IUIs. Maybe I chose the wrong one? Oh well, like PP said, I'm going to keep all my receipts and records for tax time. The good part is that I started this all this year. |
